I have worked across three industries: engineering, logistics and, for the last twelve years, energy. I provide advisory, transaction assistance and due diligence services to customers in the broader energy industry, and I publish independent research on the GB grid connection market. I live in North Lancashire.
My energy work has covered solar, battery storage, biomethane, wind and CHP, on behind-the-meter, private wire and grid-connected schemes. Most recently, at Electricity North West (Construction & Maintenance), I led commercial activity across commercial, industrial and public-sector behind-the-meter supply, private wire, HV connections and battery storage.
Before that, as Project Development & Sales Director at Iqony SENS UK, I originated around 600 MW of UK greenfield development, wrote and negotiated the options to lease and purchase that secured the land, and negotiated the sale and purchase agreement on a consented site within a 232 MW co-development portfolio. At LMSA Engineering I built and led the EMEA commercial team and developed its PPA structures.
At Strand Energy & Engineering, over eight years, I designed energy service company structures and took a heat supply business through to supply at three sites. I was also principal architect of the techno-economic model for LNG distribution in South Africa, delivered for the IFC in 2019 and defended in a four-hour review in Johannesburg.
Before energy I spent the best part of three decades designing, building and leasing equipment. My grounding was the family’s offshore logistics business in Aberdeen, which built its own container fleet and sold or leased it to North Sea operators. I designed my first product, an offshore container, in 1984.
I held profit and loss responsibility in every operating role from 2001 to 2022. I supplied the Ministry of Defence directly, by open competition, with containers and modules of my own design. At Gulf Container Systems I set up and ran the Foot and Mouth contaminated land removal programme, which reached around £1m of monthly turnover within four months with a field team of 120. I bought a 330,000 sq ft container plant in Szczecin, Poland, from a receiver and restarted it, and I qualified and managed production partners in Romania, Ukraine and China.
I have held design authority throughout, including handling and access structures certified to DNV standards for offshore, subsea and defence customers. As Managing Director of TP Stadco I delivered stadium seating and the aluminium vent structures for the Crossrail station at Canary Wharf.
Since June 2026 I have published original analysis under my own name: a series on ownership concentration in the UK’s consented solar and storage pipeline, a weekly tracker of the NESO Transmission Entry Capacity Register, a monthly tracker of the distribution networks’ Embedded Capacity Registers, and pieces on data centre demand, network charging and connections reform. In September 2026 I submitted a response to Ofgem’s Curate consultation, non-confidential in full.
The method is the same throughout: primary sources, ownership traced through Companies House filings, and findings kept separate from hypotheses. Where I get something wrong, the correction is published.
Decision Engineering is a framework of my own, not a licensed methodology. It treats organisations as configurations of assets, capital and people that can be reassembled for better outcomes, rather than as fixed structures to be managed and defended. I read economics at the LSE, under Michio Morishima and Ken Binmore, and that training still shows in how I approach markets: as things built and rebuilt, not simply run.
Since May 2019 I have been a non-executive director of Air Berlin PLC (in liquidation), appointed at the liquidator’s request to provide a UK-resident director during the winding-up. The role carries no trading or operational responsibility.
I hold a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and an MSc in Transport & Distribution Management from the Universities of Salford and Huddersfield. I am the author of the Probitas trilogy. In 2020 I led a volunteer team 3D-printing face visors for front-line NHS staff, which received the High Sheriff of Lancashire’s Award for exceptional voluntary service.
